It was only a matter of time before a specific millennial theme for the classic friendship-ruining board game monopoly was made. This time, Hasbro which introduced the first-ever Monopoly for Millennials. However, the company could not help but take a jab at the economic conditions of millennials today, inviting a lot of criticisms regarding their view of millennials.
But hold up, isn’t monopoly a game about accumulating cash with properties and real-estate? Why yes it is, but the thing is, the general consensus for millennials is that most of them find it very hard to afford housing and real-estate. So that is what Hasbro made fun of, they even did it on the box, talk about kicking a generation young people while they are down:
It was intended, of course, probably even satirical yet half-serious. Apart from reiterating the current woes of millennials these days, Hasbro also changed how this type of monopoly gets played. Instead of property or cash, the goal of the game is for the players to accumulate experiences such as dining at vegan restaurants, staying at their parents’ basements, and meditation retreats. They really should have stopped there.
But they didn’t stop there, they joked about suicide-inducing massive student debts and other burdens of millennials brought about by the older generations. Hence, some people did not find it funny, millennials to be exact.
As a millennial who loved playing Monopoly, I’m disappointed @Hasbro made this garbage. A game that profits off the backs of millennials while simultaneously mocking them? Must have been a Baby Boomer in charge of making it. https://t.co/8I3DGarLGx

The “Millennial Monopoly” Game was funny when it was Millennials joking about the idea of it online but Hasbro actually making seems cringe and like an attempt at normalizing the millennial lifestyle (which is only different than elder generations bc they pay us less)

@Hasbro ain’t shit lmfao Hahahaha Millennial Monopoly making fun of the struggles of millennials. You are aware that student debt and the rising cost of rent is crippling the economy 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️. Talking about idiotic.

Still, Hasbro, in it’s defense stated that millennials were also involved in making the game and stood by their decision, “We created Monopoly for Millennials to provide fans with a lighthearted game that allows Millennials to take a break from real life and laugh at the relatable experiences and labels that can sometimes be placed on them … Whether you are a lifestyle vlogger, emoji lover or you make your ‘side hustle’ selling vegan candles, Monopoly for Millennials is for you!”
I don’t know what’s funnier:
A) Millennial Monopoly
B) Millennials mad about Millennial Monopoly

Let’s play a game of MILLENNIAL MONOPOLY. The rules are simple, you start with no money, you can’t afford anything, the board is on fire for some reason and everything is your fault.
