How popular is snooker in China? The world snooker championships are currently ongoing. Typically snooker was a British sport, and when I was growing up in the 90s the majority of players were from England, Scotland, Wales with a few from ex-British colonies like Ireland, Australia or Canada. This year 11 players from China qualified for the last 32 (up from 3 in 2026). Zhao Xingtong became the first Chinese champion in 2025, and currently Wu Yize has reached the Semifinals as well speak.
